SYNOPSIS
Based on the true story of the director's son, the film deals with the conflict
between the skepticism of science and the power of faith. Vikram Bahadur
(Mukesh Khanna) is a renowned lawyer who does not believe in God and has
full faith in science. On the other hand, his wife Kavita (Deepti Naval)
is of the opinion that if you are fully devoted to God, the almighty will
help you solve your problems. Both love their only son Guddu (Shah Rukh
Khan) very much. Guddu, a popular student of Science College, loves his
parents too and tries not to hurt them. Guddu and Salina (Manisha Koirala),
a student of Arts College, meet for the first time in strange circumstances.
Eventually, they fall in love. Just when everything seems rosy, tragedy
strikes.
Due to negligence, Salina falls off a horse and loses her eyesight. Further,
Guddu is diagnosed as having a brain tumour. Since he has only a few months
to live, he decides to donate his eyes to Salina. The father is furious
and refuses to allow it. Guddu files a case against his father asserting
his own right to donate his eyesight. During a crucial operation, Guddu
gets miraculously cured after the doctors have given up hope and the doctors
inform the father that it could only be because of the mother's prayers.
The father has a change of heart and later, when he has an accident he decides
to donate his eyes too. But in the end it is the mother who donates her
eyes to Manisha upon her death.
