Chalte Chalte is divided into two parts. The first consists of the sweet and funny wooing on the part of a man who is desperately trying to win the heart of the woman he loves. A man who will go any distance on his mission, as long as he reaches the desired results.
Part two shows us what happens after the desired results are achieved. Now practicality and responsibilities start to overshadow their lives, and things begin to change. Raj wants so much to give Priya everything, but situations prevent that from happening and instead
actually causes a wedge between them. When overwhelming financial problems are hanging over his head, he is at a loss of how to keep them from ending up living on the streets.
The climax of the movie happens when Priya does something to try to rectify their present set of circumstances. Without thinking of what the outcome might be, she goes behind Raj's back to do it and he finds out, hurting him so deeply that he responds by flying into a
fit of rage. Being someone who acts before he thinks, his rampage destroys not only their apartment but their relationship. After some time apart, Raj rethinks the situation and goes to try and reconcile. But the timing is all wrong and he ends up assuming things which
aren't true. This sends him into a drunken stupor and leads to an embarrassing situation for Priya and her family.
This being the last straw, Priya decides she can't take it anymore and make plans to move back to Greece. When Raj finds out and realizes this will end their marriage forever, he his frantic. The airport scene is heart wrenching - his desperate search and pleas for Priya's
forgiveness and acceptance to start over. When she refuses and leaves, we see all that is left of a man defeated. He performs one last act of repentance, praying that it will bring his Priya back to him forever. This proves to be what touches her heart and she goes back,
hoping to find him alive.
Although in the end things needed to be sorted out in order for any lasting changes to be made, one thing prevailed - love. All will see that "Love is long-suffering. It hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."
